Gordon	Non-Combat	At Castle Level 3, speak to Gordon in Gregminster to accept his quest and make a total of 50,000 potch from trading. Speaking to him again will allow you to recruit him.
Lorelai	Combat	At Castle Level 3, speak to Lorelai at Gregminster.
Sasuke	Combat	If you recruited Valeria, Sasuke joins automatically after recruiting Mondo. If you recruited Kasumi, you will have to speak to Sasuke near Rokkaku's trading post with Kasumi in your party.
Mondo	Combat	In rokkaku, go to the fourth screen in the Forest Path to Gregminster to find the hidden entrance. Hanzo will order Mondo to join your party. You can recruit him at Castle Level 3 if you recruited Kasumi, and Castle Level 4 if you recruited Valeria.

Boris Wizen	Non-Combat	Boris will take Ridley's place if you run away with Nanami after beating the Neclord
Tomo	Combat	At Castle Level 3, speak to Tsai and have him in your party, then follow him to his house.
Templeton	Non-Combat	Receive a mission from Jess, and find him at the Mercenary Fortress. Follow him to Toto and you can recruit him.
Badeaux	Combat	Have an animal in your party and speak to him at the Forest Path to Matilda.
Ayda	Combat	Joins the player alongside feather in Forest Village
Feather	Combat	Bring one of Badeaux's Listening Crystals to the Forest Village, and use it after defeating the Griffins.
Connell	Non-Combat	At Castle Level 3, bring a Sound Set with you and speak to Connell at the Forest Village.
Sigfried	Combat	Place a pure maiden in your party, and use Badeaux's Listening Crystal at the Path of the Unicorn.
Karen	Combat	After defeating Luca Blight and getting your Castle Level to 3, go to the inn at Kuskus and agree to dance with her.
Maximillian	Non-Combat	After defeating Luca Blight and getting your Castle Level to 3, speak to him at South Window.

Tir McDohl	Combat	Import save data from a previous game, and Tir will appear in Banner Village with after the battle with Luca. Complete his quest and he can be recruited at the McDohl home in Gregminster.
Chuchara	Combat	Visit Abizboah and Rulodia at the docks in Headquarters and Chuchara will join your team.
Rulodia	Combat	At Castle Level 3 or up, use the Listening Orb at the Tinto Mines to speak to and recruit Abizboah and his family.

Lebrante	Non-Combat	At Castle Level 3, bring Lebrante a Celadon Urn at Radat.
Simone Verdricci	Combat	At Castle Level 3, speak to him at the Sluice Gate in Radat holding a Rose Brooch in your inventory.
Hoi	Combat	At Castle Level 3, speak to him at the restaurant in Radat. He will be available to recruit after defeating Luca.
Gantetsu	Combat	At Castle Level 3, speak to Gantetsu at South Window after defeating a Neclord and defeat him in a pushing contest. Your party must have a combined strength of 400.
Annallee	Non-Combat	At Castle Level 3, speak to Annallee at the inn in South Window, then speak to her at City Hall and listen to her song.
Killey	Combat	At Castle Level 3, tell Killey about Alex in South Window, then speak to Alex at Headquarters, and return to South Window before repeatedly asking Killey to join.
Bob	Combat	With at least 80 recruits, speak to Bob in Two River City.
Jude	Non-Combat	Speak with Jude at the New Leaf Academy, then head to Forest Village to get clay from a villager, before travelling back to give it to Jude.
Pico	Non-Combat	After Recruiting Annallee and getting Castle Level 3, speak with Pico at the Armor Shop at Tinto.
Alberto	Non-Combat	At Castle Level 3, make sure you've recruited Annallee and Pico. Then, speak to him in the Armor Shop at Tinto and speak about Annallee.
Tessai	Non-Combat	At Castle Level 3, place Viktor in your party and speak to Tessai at the Blacksmith after liberating Greenhill.

Failing to Recruit Badeaux Means You Don't Get Listening Crystals

Recruiting Badeaux will earn you 2x Listening Crystals, items that can be used to recruit other characters such as Ayda, Feather, Sigfried, and Abizboah.

If you've failed to recruit Badeaux during your game progress, then you will not be able to gain the Listening Crystals that you can use to recruit the characters mentioned above.

Ryube Forest Burning Down Will Lock You Out of Certain Recruits

There are recruitable characters that can be found in Ryube Forest such as Millie, Shiro, Kinnison, and Rikimaru.

Failing to recruit said characters before Ryube Forest gerts burned down by Luca Blight will lock them out from future recruitment.

Not Upgrading Your Castle Could Lead to Missed Characters

Not upgrading your Castle Headquarters can result to being locked out from certain recruits, questlines, and facilities.

There are 108 Stars of Destiny in Suikoden 2, featuring recruitable characters included in alternative, divergent, or story choices.

In total, there are about 117 recruitable characters in the game. This number exceeds the total number of the 108 Stars of Destiny, so there will be recruits that can be accessed beyond the designated 108 stars.

Of this total, 81 characters are playable in combat, while 36 are non-combat characters that fill some function at your Headquarters or fulfill a role in the story.

How to Recruit Characters

Progress the Story or Interact With Recruits

Characters are recruited in a variety of ways in Suikoden 2. Some join automatically as part of the story, while others must be approached and asked to join your group. Still others demand that their requirements are met, such as having your headquarters at a certain size or making profit while trading goods.

Party Members Will Sometimes Be Restricted Due to Story Progression

Depending on your current progress in the game, you will sometimes be restricted in choosing the members of your party due to the overall story progression.

This is also applicable when recruiting characters, in which you will be unable to access certain recruits until you've completed a story objective in the game.
