The only way to recruit the Hero of Suikoden 1 in Suikoden 2 is to carry over save data from Suikoden 1. Players would have need to get to the final chapter of Suikoden 1 for it to be viable for data carrry over so we recommend finishing Suikoden 1 before Suikoden 2.

You can only carry over your save data from Suikoden 1 when you play Suikoden 2 for the first time. Note that if you start the game without carrying the data over at the start, you will not be able to carry over the data of Suikoden 1 later on.
