If you die, you can only restart from your last save file.

Death Penalties

Start From Your Last Save

Save Game.png

When your party gets wiped out in battle, the players will be forced to restart from their last save point. We recommend saving often as it might be problematic for players to be set back on their progress.

How to Save Progress

KO'd Characters Retain 1 HP After Battle

If a character is defeated in battle (reduced to 0 HP), they will not be permanently lost. Instead, after the battle ends, they will revive with 1 HP, allowing them to continue participating in the game.

Permadeath During Army Battles

In Suikoden 2, some characters can die permanently if their unit is defeated in an army battle.

Once lost, these characters cannot be revived or used in your party again, potentially affecting both combat options and the game's ending.

Raise Your Party's Levels

When you raise your party members' levels, it will lower the chances of getting wiped out. Keeping your party properly levelled as you progress through the story will make sure that you can tackle difficult content at the right level without getting wiped.

Upgrade Your Gear

Along with raising your party members' levels, players should also upgrade their gear so that they can deal good damage against enemies.

Make sure to visit armor shops throughout your journey to get the best equipment for your party members.

Flee From Harder Enemies

When faced with tougher enemies, or big enemy groups, choosing to run away might be your best option. Especially during the early game, when there are only a few party-wide spells that can combat big enemy groups, it's best for players to fight smaller enemy groups when grinding.

Keep Healing Items

Before entering a dungeon, be sure to stock up on healing items to keep your party topped up after battle. Regularly check on your items before venturing out to harder content so that you aren't caught unprepared when a particularly hard enemy comes across your party.

Equip the Water Rune

While also completing a dungeon, make sure to have one of your members equip the Water Rune or the Flowing Rune as they provide the best healing spells for the party, greatly decreasing your chances of getting wiped.

Save the Game Before an Army Battle

Save Game.png

Since certain characters can die permanently in army battles, it is crucial to save your game beforehand. If a unit is defeated and you lose a character, there is no way to bring them back.

By saving before the battle, you can reload your previous file and try again, ensuring you don’t lose any important allies. This is especially important if you aim to recruit all 108 Stars of Destiny for the best ending.
