This is a list of all missable characters in Suikoden 2 HD Remaster. Be careful not to miss any of these as recruiting all 108 Stars of Destiny is required for the Golden Ending!
After deciding on the Hero's name at the beginning of the game, it cannot be changed at any point in your playthrough. Although it does not have any effect on the game itself other than the dialogue, you should be mindful that this is an irreversible event.
Also, when transferring your Suikoden 1 data to Suikoden 2, the name of the protagonist in the Suikoden 1 data will affect the name given to him when he appears in Suikoden 2. This cannot be changed either.
Does the Protagonist Have a Canon Name?
If you choose to name the main character with the same name of the protagonist of your transferred save file, there will be slight changes to some dialogue. Take note, however, that this will not change the story whatsoever.
If you wish to see these altered lines of dialogue, make sure that they are both named the same.
Tir McDohl How to Recruit and Stats
The name of your Castle, which is decided on in Chapter 4, cannot be changed during your playthrough once it has been set. Remember that your Headquarter's name will be reflected as your Army Name and Kingdom Name during dialogue as well.
Additionally, when transferring your Suikoden 1 data to Suikoden 2, the name of the inn in Banner Village will use the name of your Headquarters in Suikoden 1. However, this does not affect any other content in the game and is only a minor change in dialogue.
Does the Castle Have A Canon Name?
You will be asked to name your unit before your first army battle, which takes place early in the game when you begin leading a small resistance force. While this is not a full-scale army battle, it marks the first instance where you command troops, making it the moment your unit officially receives its name.
Once you select a name for your unit, it is permanent. There is no option to rename your unit later in the game, so choose carefully before confirming your decision.
If a unit falls during an Army Battle, some of your recruited characters may permanently die. Once dead, their name will be grayed out in the Stone Tablet of Promise located in your Headquarters and they will not reappear at any point in your playthrough anymore.
It is highly recommended that you save your progress before going into any major Army Battles, as these events may occur randomly when units fall in battle.
As you progress through the story, there will be several villages that get destroyed or become inaccessible. Similarly, there are dungeons that are inaccessible once they are cleared.
If you wish to collect all items or recruit certain characters, such as Rikimaru and Millie, then you should be thorough in checking all of the areas once you have access.
If you miss the opportunity or choose the wrong option to recruit certain Stars of Destiny, then you will never be able to recruit them again.
We highly recommend saving often and exercising caution after certain major events, as you might be locked out of the game's True Ending if you fail to recruit all 108 characters.
Endings Guide: All Branching Endings and Conditions
During the events of where you visit Gregminster and the Toran Republic, you will be given the chance to choose between Kasumi or Valeria. Take note that whichever character that you didn't choose will not be recruited and that this decision will not affect the story or the complete recruitment of the 108 Stars of Destiny.
When comparing the two, Valeria has a slight edge in combat, but in the end, they are relatively similar in strength. In the end, choosing either has its own benefits and will not penalize you in any way.
Should You Choose Kasumi or Valeria?
Choosing "I understand, let's go." will trigger the events of the Escape Route. When triggered, Ridley will inevitably die. Seeing as Ridley is a strong unit during Army Battles, you may want to reconsider triggering this event as he will not return.
Ridley Wizen How to Recruit and Army Battle Team
After his death, Ridley's son, Boris, will join your army and replaces Ridley as the "Tengou Star" in the Stone Tablet of Promise.

During the events that occur in Rockaxe Castle, Nanami may or may not die if you don't fulfill certain conditions. If she dies, then you will not be able to get the best ending in the game.
If you wish to see the best ending, you're required to fulfill all of the conditions below before starting the siege on Rockaxe Castle.
① | Recruit all 108 Stars of Destiny |
---|---|
② | Make sure that Nanami equips armor for her Head and Body |
③ | Choose the option that appears before the battle with Gorudo before it disappears Whichever option chosen doesn't matter. |
Nanami How to Recruit and Stats
If you sell or discard rare items that are only obtainable once in a playthrough, you will not be able to get them again.
It's recommended that you leave any valuables that you do not want to lose in the Headquarters' warehouse or with the main character.
