Get the Best Characters For Your Party

Suikoden 1 - Ted and Hero

Suikoden 1 HD Remaster features 108 characters, but not all are equally strong. Early in the game, you'll encounter powerhouses like the main character's teacher, Kai, while later on, you'll meet formidable allies such as Viktor and Flik, along with missable characters like Maximillian.

For smooth and efficient progression, recruit these characters into your party and invest in building their strength whenever possible.

Change Party and Formation Strategy

Of course, getting the best characters is only half the battle, as you will have to learn how to change your party members! It is not just a matter of putting the strongest characters in the same party, but synergizing them with characters mandated by the story to be in your party.

You will also have to make sure that at least one or two of your party members are able to hit enemies at certain ranges.

Farm EXP Efficiently

Suikoden 1 - Battle Screen

If you don’t properly level up your party in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster, you may find yourself repeatedly restarting from your last save point.

Additionally, some characters won’t join your party unless the main character reaches a specific level, and certain fights can result in losing key characters if they aren’t strong enough.

To avoid these mishaps during your adventure, it’s crucial to know where to find essential runes like the Fortune Rune for fast EXP farming and to use efficient farming strategies.

Earn Money as Fast as Possible

Suikoden 1 - Marco Cup Game

Just like with EXP, farming money (or Potch) is crucial if you want to not only get the best gear for your characters, but to buy certain quest items.

You will spend more than a fair amount of Potch in this game, so find the Prosperity Rune, play dice games with Gaspar, and use other ways to earn money in-game.

They say discretion is the better part of valor, and that is more true in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster because there will be times when you will find yourself in battles you cannot win.

The only way forward without dying and having to start again from your last save is to escape and pick your battles wisely next time.

Additionally, avoiding unnecessary battles by using the Let Go option in combat is also a way to conserve precious resources.
