| Get Either One of the Rune Orbs Early | |

| Fortune Orb | Can be equipped to a character. Bearer gains double experience points. |
| Prosperity Orb | Can be equipped to a character. Doubles potch gained. |
After meeting with the Emperor right after the start of the game, go to Sarady along without meeting Ted. Afterwards, talk to the resident of the house in the upper right corner of town to obtain the Fortune Orb. On the other hand, you can meet up with Ted and talk to the same resident in Sarady together to get the Prosperity Orb instead. Regardless of which Crystal you decide to take first, either option will make for a smoother playthrough early on.
Runes Guide: How to Equip and Level Up Runes
Every time you use items like Medicine, Antitoxin, Mega Medicine, and the like, their total number of uses decreases. However, putting them in the warehouse will restore their usage availability back to full. This means that you can replenish your recover items infinitely without having to buy new recovery items in the Item Shop, resulting in money saved.
There are a total of eight Old Books
that can be found from treasure chests, etc., throughout the game. However, if you give all eight of them to Hugo and have them all on the bookshelf, you can read a secret ninth Old Book by pressing the ◯, △, ✕, and ▢ buttons simultaneously.
The ninth book contains comments from the development team of Suikoden 1.
List of Old Books and How to Use Them
When Ivanov is recruited, he will begin to paint a mural in the Headquarters. When you successfully give him all seven paint colors, he will reward you with the Binoculars. This item can be used to change the camera angle during combat.
You can decorate the bath with several different antiques that you find throughout the game, which result in special Bath Events. These interactions do not have any bearing to the game's story or combat, and mainly done for amusement.

Peeing Boy
at the Upper Right Corner For a nice little shower, place a peeing boy at the upper right corner. |
During the events of Kouan where you have to infiltrate Lepant's Mansion, you will come across a Roulette room where you have to spin the wheel to progress. Landing the wheel on ?
will reward you with the consumable item, Dragon Seal Incense. This item can be used to heal 50 HP to the entire party, as well as the benefit of being able to use it infinitely. Make sure to obtain this item to make your playthrough much smoother.
