Dropped by Nightmares

Nightmares have a chance to drop an Opal after defeating them. Nightmares can be found inside the Soniere Prison or in Scarleticia Castle.

No Need to Appraise Opal

The Opal drops from Nightmares as a distinct item used only for recruiting Esmeralda. It is not an antique, and does not need to be appraised at an Appraisal Shop.

If you receive ??? items from fighting Nightmares in Soniere Prison, these are not Opals. Keep fighting until you receive an Opal directly.

How to Use Opal

Recruit Esmeralda in Antei

Esmeralda can be found at the second floor of the inn in Antei, and will ask you for an Opal before joining the Liberation Army.

Opal and Opal Ring are the Same

Though Esmeralda asks you for an Opal as her recruitment condition, and the item the Nightmares drop is an Opal, upon recruiting her she calls the item an ”Opal Ring”.

This may simply be a typographical error in the script. In any case, any Opal dropped by Nightmares will qualify to recruit Esmeralda.
