You can obtain the Yardstick by trading Sugar in the barter event to recruit Sarah in Kirov.
Trade Sugar for this item from the man in the Kirov inn bedroom.

| * |  Interact with Sarah ① first to start the quest of finding soap. Then talk to the rest of the Kirov villagers in order from ② to ⑤. |
| 1 |  Once you've talked to the final villager ⑤ inside the Inn, buy some Sugar in the Item Shop located at the west side of Kirov. |
| 2 |  Give the Sugar to the man at the Inn ⑤ to obtain the Yardstick. |
| 3 |  Give the Yardstick you've obtained from the man at the Inn ⑤ to the woman near the docks ④ and trade it for some Salt. |
| 4 |  Give the Salt you've recently obtained and give it to the man near the Item Shop ③ and trade it for some Soy Sauce. |
| 5 |  Trade the Soy Sauce for some Soap by interacting with the man near the armor shop ②, located on the northeast area of Kirov. |
| 6 |  Finally give the Soap to Sarah to recruit her. |
The yardstick is needed in a series of events that require you to barter different items to be able to recruit Sarah.
