MiHoYo teased a brand-new Honkai game that looks to be a Pokémon-like experience. Read on to learn more about what was shown in the trailer, and if this is the rumored Honkai Nexus Anima.
Brand-New Honkai Game Teased
Possibly a Pokémon-like Game
MiHoYo announced their next game featuring some known characters from their Honkai games. During Honkai Star Rail’s Concert livestream on May 4, miHoYo dropped a 20-second teaser featuring Kiana, a familiar face from Honkai Impact 3rd, and Blade from Honkai: Star Rail, both commanding creatures and monsters to battle.
Based on the teaser, the gameplay could be a Pokémon-like battlers experience, an auto-chess strategy game, or have some sort of monster-collecting mechanics. This would not be a surprising theme as Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail have introduced creatures and critters that fans took a liking to, which may have prompted the developers to highlight them in a separate game.
This is evident in how both games have dedicated events surrounding these monsters. In Genshin Impact, they have a monster-capturing mechanic that lets them keep creatures in their Serenitea Pot (the game’s player housing system). Additionally, an event called "Fabulous Fungus Frenzy" was held, which lets players capture Fungus and participate in a beast tamer tournament.
Meanwhile, Honkai Star Rail held the "Aetherium Wars" event that utilized the game’s turn-based mechanics using the monsters seen in the game as their partners, which is similar to Pokémon’s overall concept.
The upcoming unnamed game looks to feature numerous characters from across the series, as the teaser ends with a graphic showing silhouettes of characters many are familiar with, such as possibly Aventurine from Star Rail.
The game is described as a "brand-new Honkai Game," with fans hoping that Genshin Impact characters would be included too. Although not much has been revealed, the trailer suggests that Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai Star Rail characters will be featured in this game.
Is this Honkai Nexus Anima?
Many are speculating that this game is the rumored Honkai Nexus Anima that miHoYo trademarked, just a few weeks ago. Not much has been revealed in the trademark filing, but speculations from fans are warranted based on the recency of the trademark and teaser.
Additionally, previous job listings by miHoYo may be connected to this upcoming Honkai game. As reported by Enduins Gaming in September 2024, developer HoYoVerse posted job listings that hint at the development of multiple projects, including "Character Concept Art (Anthropomorphic Animals)," for a chibi-style life simulation, "Scene Concept Art – Honkai IP Pre-research" for fantasy spirit companions, and more.
Given that the teased game will be a new Honkai game, as mentioned by miHoYo, fans have linked that Honkai Nexus Anima is what was previewed. However, no official announcements have been made, and these are purely speculative.
Despite the recent teaser, fans are left with more questions than answers on what the game truly is, or if it is even the rumored Honkai Nexus Anima. Regardless, miHoYo fans will have something to look forward to. With the company’s extensive portfolio and reputation, players expect this new game to introduce a fresh and new experience.
