10-Minute Overview Trailer
Elden Ring Nightreign’s release date looms near, and players can’t wait to get their hands on the multiplayer Souls RPG. FromSoftware unveiled an overview trailer of Nightreign on May 2, featuring the game’s lore, features, mechanics, and more.
As mentioned by the trailer, "ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN is a co-op survival action game where you navigate a vast and dangerous field with other players. You must become one of the Nightfarers, fighting through the endless night and taking scores of vicious foes over the span of three days."
The video showcased what fans can expect from the game and explained how each playthrough goes. Players are dropped in the land of Limveld to hunt the Nightlords that rule over the area. They are tasked to take them down, and must work their way by defeating enemies, searching for treasures, and more.
As shown, the typical gameplay loop will be gathering resources during the day, then facing these bosses during the night. Each day that passes makes the map smaller, with new enemies spawning. At the end of the third day, players must defeat a powerful Nightlord to end their expedition.
According to the trailer, "the layout of Limveld will change each time you visit." This means that bases, types of enemies, chest rewards, and others will be altered and randomized on each run. Explorations may also be interrupted by sudden enemy ambushes or encounters with unpredictable events such as meteor strikes or volcanic eruptions.
Last 2 Classes Teased
The overview trailer gave fans a glimpse of the last 2 classes of Nightreign, which have yet to be officially revealed. However, while going through the character select screen, players saw a new character named Executor.
As seen on the trailer, Executor seems to be a knight who wields a sword, which he can imbue with power. A short clip of him was shown parrying and countering an enemy. At the end of the portion of the video dedicated to the Nightfarers, a sneak peek of another character was teased. This Nightfarer is a female character with greyish hair who wields some sort of harp.
Fans can expect character trailers for these Nightfarers in the coming weeks as Nightreign inches closer to its release.
The Roundtable Hold
Meanwhile, Nightreign features a base where players can prepare before they engage in battle in Limveld. The hidden Roundtable serves as an area for players to equip relics, purchase items, and customize their characters.
Relics are equippable items recovered from expeditions that can enhance players’ abilities. Different relic combinations offer varying gameplay, so players are encouraged to try out different approaches and see what suits their playstyle. These relics are also available at the base from a small Jar Merchant tucked away in a small corner. To purchase, players must exchange a currency called "Murk," which is earned as battle rewards.
Furthermore, players can use the "fitting mirror" to change their characters’ attire. These costumes are purely cosmetic and do not affect or alter gameplay. The trailer showcased some of the outfits available in the game, including surprise previews of familiar Souls costumes such as Solaire of Astoria, Faraam, the God of War, and Ringfinger Leonhard from Dark Souls 3.
Additionally, players may collect "fragments of lost memories" from their expedition, which expand on the lore of each Nightfarer. These memories may present new objectives for players to accomplish during their runs. Once achieved, it will reveal each Nightfarer’s origins and purposes.
PC Requirements
Nightreign’s PC requirements are not as devastating as its enemies and bosses. In a Twitter (X) post on April 28, FromSoftware revealed the game’s minimum and recommended settings, which are very much achievable for most gaming setups.
There’s not much of a gap between its minimum and recommended specs, as the minimum requires Intel Core i5 10600 or Ryzen 5 5500, while the recommended is Intel Core i5 115000 or Ryzen 5600. The required memory is also close, with 12 GB and 16 GB, respectively.
The same can be said with its graphics card requirement, with the minimum going for GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 580, and the recommended for GTX 1070 or Radeon RX Vega 56. Fans applauded FromSoftware’s dedication to optimization, highlighting its low 30 GB storage requirement.
With its release just less than a month away, FromSoftware’s recent reveals encourage fans to check out the upcoming multiplayer co-op survival. The overview trailer gave fans more things to get excited about as they ramp up towards its launch.
