Meet Jason and Lucia
Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) has been the talk of the town lately, especially since Rockstar Games announced that it will postpone its highly-awaited release next year. Following the delay, the studio dropped GTA 6’s second trailer on May 6 featuring the next-gen Vice City and its residents.
The video provided fans with more information about the game’s two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. GTA 6’s official website provided their backgrounds and motivations as they navigate the hustle and bustle of Vice City.
Its story synopsis reads, "Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."
According to the website, Jason was a former soldier in the Army, trying to escape his troubled past. However, he found himself in Leonida Keys and now works for local drug runners. His encounter with Lucia might be the best or worst thing to happen to him, and he wishes that it goes for the best.
Meanwhile, Lucia learned to fight from her father as soon as she could walk. Her rough upbringing led her eto nd up in the Leonida Penitentiary. After getting out, she vowed to only make smart moves from here on out to give her mother a good life they had dreamed of since they were in Liberty City.
Fresh out of prison, Lucia looks to change the odds in her favor, and a life with Jason could be her way out. Players will get to experience Lucia and Jason’s journey along with the city’s colorful cast that make the sunny Leonida Keys.
A Conspiracy Theorist, Local Vice City Legend, Seasoned Bank Robber, and More
Beyond the two protagonists, Rockstar Games also introduced some of the game’s key characters. This includes Jason’s friend Cal Hampton, a conspiracy theorist who believes everything on the internet is true. Despite his casual paranoia, he loves to be in the Keys and aids Jason in his bigger plans.
Ruling the corners of Vice City is local legend Boobie Ike. He turned his life on the streets into a legitimate empire, owning real estate, a strip club, and a recording studio. The game looks to explore the music industry with characters like Dre’Quan and music duo Real Dimez joining the mix.
On the other hand, some characters embody the life of crime in the city. Raul Bautista is a seasoned bank robber who is always ready to take risks to bring home the biggest rewards. Operating his smuggling business in the Keys, Brian Heder is a classic drug runner who has been around for a long time. He lets Jason live in one of his properties rent-free as long as he helps with local shakedowns.
There are more characters based on the trailer, but with the ones detailed by Rockstar Games so far, GTA 6 highlights the diverse cast that resides in the sunny side of Vice City.
Places in Vice City and New Screenshots
Vice City epitomizes "the glamour, hustle, and greed of America." The city first appeared in 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, then later in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories in 2006. Inspired by the coastal city of Miami, it is home to beachfronts and parties scattered all around the area.
Some key locations introduced include the tropical archipelago of Leonida Keys, the primordial expanse of Grassrivers, Leonida’s forgotten coast of Port Gellhorn, the heart of Leonida in Ambrosia, and the national landmark Mount Kalaga.
Moreover, Rockstar Games released new screenshots featuring the game’s characters, locations, and scenes. It showcases the high quality and fidelity that many expect from the long-awaited open-world action-adventure.
Despite its delay, the recent reveals gave fans something to look forward to, given how much attention to detail the developers put into creating quite possibly the best GTA game to date.
