⚫︎ Owners of the Nintendo Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy may be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version for $10, according to player reports, while upgrading to the Digital Deluxe Edition through the DLC may cost $15. This means players who buy the current $17.99 sale version could access the Switch 2 edition for $27.99. In contrast, some Switch 2 titles like Deltarune will offer free upgrades for existing owners.

⚫︎ The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Hogwarts Legacy will bring significant upgrades, including 1440p resolution in docked mode and 1080p in handheld, both with HDR. Enhanced lighting, shadows, anti-aliasing, and faster load times will offer a more immersive experience, eliminating the loading screens that plagued the original Switch version. The game will leverage Nvidia’s DLSS technology to boost visual quality without sacrificing performance, and it will support mouse controls. Additionally, the physical edition will use Nintendo’s Game-Key Card system, which requires players to download the game online.

⚫︎ Bloomberg reports that Warner Bros. Discovery has canceled a planned expansion for Hogwarts Legacy as part of a broader restructuring, citing concerns over content value. Originally set to launch with a Definitive Edition this year, the DLC was in development at Avalanche Software with Rocksteady Studios. Despite the cancellation, a sequel remains in development.

⚫︎ Hogwarts Legacy community manager Chandler Wood announced official PC modding support, launching as a free update on January 30. The update introduces the Creator Kit and Mod Manager, allowing players to create and install mods seamlessly via CurseForge. However, this update is exclusive to PC, leaving console players without any official modding support. While this opens new creative possibilities—like swapping broomsticks for dragons and adding custom quests—it has also disrupted existing unofficial mods. Before this update, PC players had been using third-party mods to customize their game, but the changes have rendered many outdated, breaking character designs and gameplay tweaks.

⚫︎ Hogwarts Legacy continues to captivate fans, having sold over 30 million copies since its 2023 release, with a sequel likely still years away. However, 2025 could be significant for the franchise, as a potential improved version of the game may arrive on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. With the original Switch version hindered by hardware limitations, the rumored definitive or director’s cut tailored for the next-generation console could deliver a superior experience, including additional content to further enhance the game’s appeal.
