Final Fantasy 9 (FF9) remake speculations reignite once more as Square Enix updates its 25th anniversary website. New profiles for fan-favorite characters Zidane, Vivi, Garnet, and Steiner have been added, which fans point to as a sign of an upcoming FF9 remake.
Earlier this year, Square Enix launched FF9’s 25th anniversary website, which in and of itself sparked speculations about a potential remake. This was further fueled weeks later, when Square Enix posted a quote on Twitter from everyone’s favorite black mage, Vivi.
In their latest update, small icons of 4 out of the 8 main cast are featured on the website. When clicked, short descriptions are shown with new art from FF9’s character designer Toshiyuki Itahana, who has also worked on the Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo spinoff series These descriptions offer a summary of the character and their goals in the story.
Nothing has been confirmed yet, but the sheer level of detail Square Enix invested in this anniversary celebration prompted fans to anticipate that something big is going to get announced for the title sometime soon. For now, FF9 fans will have to wait for further updates regarding a possible remake.
New Merch Available
Additionally, Square Enix now offers more merchandise for the game’s 25th anniversary collection. The additions include Garnet’s necklace, a replica of Vivi’s hat, a set of acrylic standees, and more.
Garnet’s Silver Necklace is now available for reservations, with the expected release date on November 15. The necklace will cost around 38,500 yen or approximately $260. Meanwhile, an actual replica of Vivi’s hat, which is wearable, is also open for reservations, and its target release is on September 6. It costs around 17,600 yen or roughly $120.
Another notable merch is the FF9 Acrylic Stand Collection, which comes in 8 different designs. The set is in the form of blind boxes, which means fans will not know what design they’ll get until after they open it.
With all the preparations and merchandise revealed, it seems inevitable that the FF9 remake will come true. Despite Square Enix being tight-lipped about any information, fans remain hopeful that a remake of their beloved journey in Gaia comes to life.
