Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago

Making remakes from classic games has been a growing trend with legendary developers, with games like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4, just to name a few. Another title that could be included in the list is the original Devil May Cry (DMC), as its director, Hideki Kamiya, showed interest in making its remake.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel on May 8, Kamiya answered fan questions about remakes and sequels. When asked what ideas he would have if he were to make a DMC remake, he replied, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."

    First Released 2001

Devil May Cry was first released in 2001 and was originally supposed to be Resident Evil 4. However, the game changed drastically from its core ideas, which prompted Capcom to create DMC instead.

Nearly 25 years after its release, Kamiya shared how he came up with the game. He said that in 2000, he was dumped big time by the girl he was dating, and was depressed. That memory burned inside him, which became DMC.

Kamiya stated that he never replays his games after release, and DMC is no exception. However, he sometimes stumbles upon gameplay clips and thinks to himself that DMC really is a game from 24 years ago, with its old-timey game design. If he were to make a remake of it, he would build it from the ground up using today’s technology and game design approach.

Currently, he does not think about it that much, as he only comes up with ideas if the project is really happening. If it does happen, he asks Capcom to leave it to him, as he said "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do."Besides DMC, Kamiya also has an interest in creating a remake of Viewtiful Joe. With these revelations, fans of Kamiya’s work may now be hoping for these beloved titles to come back as a remake in the near future.
