Phasmophobia Overview
Phasmophobia is a co-op multiplayer horror game developed by Kinetic Games, first released on PC via Steam Early Access on September 18, 2020. In a world where ghosts are not only real but highly diverse and unpredictable, players take on the role of paranormal investigators tasked with identifying the type of spirit haunting a location. Phasmophobia Gameplay
Phasmophobia takes a methodical and strategic approach to paranormal investigation, immersing players in the eerie world of ghost hunting.
Rather than confronting spirits head-on, the primary objective is to identify the type of ghost haunting a location. Players must rely on specialized equipment to gather Evidence,
each piece revealing key characteristics of the entity. Using tools like EMF detectors, blacklights for UV residue, thermometers for freezing temperatures, cameras to capture floating orbs, and even observing objects moving on their own, investigators must deduce the ghost’s identity through process of elimination.
Once the ghost is identified—or when the team’s collective Sanity drops below 50%—the entity becomes aggressive, initiating a hunt that can result in death if players fail to evade it. Escaping with their findings and correctly identifying the ghost rewards players with money and experience, allowing them to upgrade their gear for future investigations.
What truly sets Phasmophobia apart is its unique approach to horror—players aren't merely the hunted; they are the hunters. However, instead of relying on violence or brute force, success hinges on investigation, teamwork, and deduction. The game transforms traditional horror dynamics by making players active participants in uncovering the supernatural, rather than just surviving it.
