Mario Kart World Overview

Mario Kart World is an upcoming kart racing game developed and published by Nintendo. Scheduled for release on June 5, 2025 as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, the game serves as the latest installment in the long-running Mario Kart series. It also introduces several innovative features that distinguishes it from its predecessors.

Mario Kart World lets players explore beyond its traditional tracks. The game features open-world elements where racers can drive off-road and explore various terrains. Here, in-game effects depend on the "time of day and weather conditions." The primary objective here, though, remains consistent with the series: compete against other characters from the Mario universe to reach the finish line first.

Mario Kart World supports races with up to 24 players, doubling that of previous titles. New gameplay mechanics include rail grinding on course edges and wall bouncing. The character roster has also been expanded to feature both classic figures like Mario and Luigi as well as unconventional choices such as the cow from Moo Moo Meadows.

Mario Kart World Gameplay

Mario Kart World introduces an evolved Grand Prix mode where players compete across four interconnected tracks. Unlike previous iterations where races were distinct events, this version requires racers to navigate between courses. Each track now transitions seamlessly into the next with no loading screens in between.

The game supports up to 24 players per race, doubling that from earlier titles. Additionally, the introduction of off-road segments and diverse vehicles—including boats and snowmobiles—allows players to traverse a variety of terrain. A notable addition is the Free Roam mode, which permits players to explore the game’s open-world environments.
