Monster Hunter Wilds Story
Monster Hunter Wilds Plot
For over a thousand years, the Forbidden Lands were thought to be uninhabited until a child survivor, Nata, was saved during an investigation. With this discovery, the Guild authorizes a more thorough investigation of the Forbidden Lands and the search of the White Wraith, the monster that terrorized and attacked the Keepers’ village, Nata’s people.
The Hunter, together with their team comprised of the Avis Unit, is tasked with leading the charge into unknown territory and use all of the tools, weapons, knowledge, and skills at their disposal to find the secrets of the Forbidden Lands and search for the White Wraith.
Monster Hunter Wilds Gameplay
Monster Hunter Wilds delivers a more refined monster-hunting experience with the return of 14 unique weapons and a massive roster of new and returning monsters. The game will have brand-new locales and dynamic weather to introduce a bigger and better version of Monster Hunter.
Being the sixth mainline game of the series, Monster Hunter Wilds has continued to implement most of the designs that it had with the previous iteration, Monster Hunter World, and combines some of the different movesets that were refined in Monster Hunter Rise. While many combat elements have changed, the core gameplay loop remains the same: take quests, hunt monsters, take materials, craft stronger equipment, and repeat.
Dynamic Weather - Fallow, Inclemency, and Plenty
The game features dynamic weather changes that have drastic effects on not only the visuals of the area but also the different interactions that the Hunter can use. Moreover, Apex Predators will only appear during Inclemancy. It’s still unclear whether some or all monsters have restrictions to be on certain times aside from the Apex Predator, but it has been shown that the monster's behavior changes depending on the weather conditions.
Returning Tools and Weapons - All 14 Weapons and the Slinger
Monster Hunter Wilds will see the return of all fourteen weapons in the series, with the Great Sword and Heavy Bowgun already being shown what's new in their respective movesets. From MH World, the slinger makes a return with the added functionality of having a hook to grab items from afar - even when mounted on your Seikret.
New Combat Mechanics - Focus Mode, Wounding, and More
Monster Hunter Wilds introduces new combat mechanics that bolster the already-engaging gameplay that the series is known for.
Focus Mode
The overview, shows the Hunter using Focus Mode to aim their attacks while targeting specific glowing parts of the monster's body. This may be one of the mechanics that really affects the game's combat. In older Monster Hunter games, there hasn't really been a way to manually aim melee weapons other than moving the camera, moving your character, or your weapon having an attack that moves you as well.
With Focus Mode, it allows you to have an aimed attack while using a melee weapon, and additionally, the Wound mechanic also functions similar to MH World's Clagger or Tenderize mechanic but will be more engaging as you don't have to disconnect from attacking the monster.
Power Clash and Offset Attack
There are two new combat features introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds that are only available to certain weapons.
Power Clash is a feature available to weapons that can block, which are the Sword and Shield, Great Sword, Lance, Heavy Bowgun, Gunlance, and Charge Blade. It happens when you block a certain amount of attacks, and then block a specific attack that the monster has. When a Power Clash happens, the player engaged in the deadlock must press the attack button repeatedly to overpower the monster. If the player wins in the clash, they will be awarded an opening to attack the monster.
An Offset Attack is also a new combat mechanic that happens when certain weapon attacks land at the same time as the monster's attack. It's only available for the Great Sword, Hammer, Hunting Horn, Heavy Bowgun, and Switch Axe. Landing an Offset Attack will cause the monster to be knocked off balance and award the player a strong follow-up attack afterward.
New Mount Features and Weapon-Swapping - A Well-Kept Seikret
Hunters will now have an exclusive mount called the Seikret, which will help you traverse the treacherous Forbidden Lands. While having a mount in MH isn't particularly new, this time it's a dedicated mount that you'll have access to most of the time. During combat, you'll be able to call your Seikret to pick you up and even get you out of harm's way.
Support Hunters
Similar to MH Rise, Monster Hunter Wilds will feature a Support Hunter system where NPCs can join in on your hunt. It was also revealed that these Support Hunters can also be enlisted in an offline session, so that you could have companions without being online.
Crossplay Support
As revealed in Summer Game Fest 2024, Monster Hunter Wilds will have crossplay support between all platforms!
