Lies of P Gameplay

Action RPG with Soulslike Elements

Image

Lies of P is a third-person action RPG where players assume the role of P, a puppet, exploring the gothic city of Krat. The core gameplay revolves around combat against a variety of enemies, including rogue puppets, warring factions, and citizens afflicted by a strange petrification disease. At the beginning of the game, players choose one of three distinct combat styles, which predetermines P's starting attributes and weapon loadout.

Players can utilize light and heavy attacks, as well as parry or block incoming attacks. Successfully parrying an enemy can stagger them and even damage their weapon, creating an opening for a counterattack. While blocking reduces damage, it does result in a small health loss, which can be partially recovered by striking back. Weapons have a durability stat that decreases with use, but players can utilize grindstones to repair and temporarily enhance their weapons.

Inventory Management and Weapon Customization

A key feature of Lies of P's combat is its weapon customization system. With the exception of boss weapons, each weapon comprises a blade and a handle, both of which can be upgraded and combined with other components. These combinations create unique special attacks called Fable Arts, which are activated by filling a dedicated meter. Furthermore, P possesses Legion Arms, mechanical attachments offering a range of tools, including a grappling hook, for both combat and traversal.

Hotel Krat serves as a central hub where players can upgrade and acquire new weapons, as well as engage in other activities as they progress. Ergo, the game's currency, is used for purchasing items and leveling up P's attributes, such as vitality and vigor.

Exploration and Solving Riddles

Players will navigate the intricate streets of Krat, encountering ringing phones that present riddles. Solving these riddles rewards Trinity Keys, which unlock hidden areas containing valuable resources and equipment. Players can also discover Cryptic Vessels, concealed locations with chests containing various rewards, and collectables scattered throughout the environment.

Stargazers act as checkpoints, allowing players to replenish health and resources, as well as providing fast travel and respawn points. Upon death, P loses any accumulated Ergo, which can be recovered at the location of death. However, the recoverable amount diminishes each time P takes damage while attempting to retrieve it.

Choices and Multiple Endings

The game incorporates a morality system, which presents players with timed choices to lie or tell the truth. This influences the narrative and ultimately affects the game’s multiple endings.

Lies of P Story

Image

Set in a cruel, steampunk reimagination of Carlo Collodi's The Adventures of Pinocchio, Lies of P puts you in the shoes of the titular character from the popular children's story as you destroy rogue puppets and unravel the mysteries behind their madness. Along the way, you will encounter characters who will aid you, such as Sophia (the game's version of The Blue Fairy), your father Geppetto, and Eugénie, as well as those who would stand in your way, such as the Stalkers.
