Kirby Air Riders Gameplay
Kirby Air Riders is a racing game featuring Kirby and other characters in the series navigating various courses on different Air Ride Machines. Each machine boasts unique appearances and stats. Beyond this, detailed information regarding the game’s mechanics remains limited. Though the game was shown during the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct in April 2025, only a few gameplay elements have been confirmed.
It may, however, retain gameplay elements from its predecessor, the 2003 GameCube title Kirby Air Ride. This game is distinguished by its simplified control scheme; vehicles accelerate automatically. This allows players to focus primarily on steering and using abilities. The default control scheme involves using the A button to brake, charge boosts, and perform other actions such as inhaling enemies to gain their abilities.
The 2003 game offers three main modes:
⚫︎ Air Ride Mode: Standard racing mode. Allows up to four players.
⚫︎ Top Ride Mode: Race from a top-down perspective.
⚫︎ City Trial Mode: Explore a cityscape within a set time limit to collect power-ups and play mini-games.
Kirby Air Riders Story
The 2003 GameCube title, Kirby Air Ride, was primarily a racing game without a conventional storyline, and Kirby Air Riders for the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to follow this format. Here, players will control Kirby and other characters across various racing modes.
Currently, only Kirby is confirmed playable, with color variations—pink, yellow, green, and blue—potentially hinting at four-player local co-op.
