Duet Night Abyss Gameplay
Duet Night Abyss is a semi-open world mix of a third-person shooter and an action RPG, blending the former's ranged skirmishing options with various firearms together with the latter's focus on immersive close-ranged combat. These two styles are seamlessly integrated into the gameplay, allowing players to effortlessly switch between them as the situation demands. The experience is further enhanced by a similar blend of the two genres' signature movement features, particularly the former's slide and the latter's combat roll.
Despite the intriguing genre combination, Duet Night Abyss' core gameplay loop stays faithful to its RPG roots. Each character can be upgraded through levels, equipment, weapons, and skills. Equipment, referred to in-game as Demon Wedges, are items that can be slotted into not just characters, but also weapons to improve their performance and add passive abilities. Weapons, meanwhile, can be freely equipped onto any character without limitations or restrictions to their type or rarity. This freedom allows players to build their characters in a wide variety of ways.
Each character possesses two active and two passive skills. The active skills can be loosely categorized into a normal and an ultimate skill due to their functions. However, both skills use the same resource to activate: Sanity. Normally, Sanity is recovered over time, which means players must allocate their resources wisely in order to continuously make use of their skills. There are, however, different ways to increase Sanity gain, such as using the appropriate weapons or having certain passive skills.
Parties in Duet Night Abyss also function differently from its mobile game peers. Instead of being able to swap between characters, players have to summon their companions on the field simultaneously. The player's active character cannot be changed between their summoned allies.
Duet Night Abyss Story Plot
Duet Night Abyss takes place in the fantastical land of Altasia, where crystal trees, dubbed the Heaventrees, bore crystal fruit known as Phoxene. The Heaventrees and their fruits were worshiped by a massive religious country called the Elysian Church over countless centuries, whereas their alchemists continuously studied the Phoxene to discover the incredible Phoxichor Technology. Phoxene were harvested in tandem with the Charon, an ancient species with an innate magic potential, yet still humanoid.
Charons who grow up and develop special ‘demonic’ prowess are regarded as dangerous and said to bring misfortune and destruction, causing a history of severe discrimination against them.
Across the several millennia of Altasia’s history, several countries would establish their existence, with the biggest and most influential ones being the Elysian Church and the Hyperborean Empire. The Empire, being a country born out of war, sought to annex smaller countries until it was able to compare against the Elysian Church.
You, however, lived a life detached from the worldly conflict in a secluded island with Berenica, your lifelong best friend. But when the empire came and took her away from you, your goal becomes clear: get her back, even if it means fighting against the world.
