It has been nearly five years since the game’s initial announcement back on May 27, 2021, but no information about the game has been revealed. There is currently no announced release date or timing for Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate (DQ12). Yuji Horii, the series creator and director, mentioned in the Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary livestream that they are aiming for a worldwide release.

In an interview with TOKYO M.A.A.D. SPIN back on June 26, 2023, Horii revealed that since they were making the new Dragon Quest for adults, they were having some trouble. He reveals that the Coronavirus pandemic has also dampened development time. Additionally, it was reported that Lead Producer Yu Miyake is stepping down from his position to head the mobile games division instead.

From all these, we can only further speculate that Dragon Quest XII still won’t be coming out anytime soon, perhaps not even in 2024. The years 2025 and beyond would be the most likely for the newest entry to eventually come out.
