Kojima confirmed that Death Stranding 2's release date is already set, but he cannot disclose it yet. He mentioned that the announcement will likely come sometime in 2025, aligning with the game's planned release window.

Kojima announced that filming and motion capture for Death Stranding 2 wrapped up in May 2024. He also mentioned that the sequel is currently in an "adjustment phase" that's expected to last about a year.

Death Stranding 2 was announced at The Game Awards in 2022. Kojima revealed that he'd conceived the original story before the pandemic, but reimagined it to reflect the global impact of COVID-19.

In a 2022 interview with Leo Edit, Norman Reedus hinted at the development of Death Stranding 2. Hideo Kojima playfully responded a few days later, telling Reedus to "Go to your private room," a reference to both the game and a possible punishment for revealing secrets.
