The Witcher 4 Beta Test Invite Scam
CD Projekt Red Issues Warning
The Witcher 4 developer, CD Projekt Red, has issued a warning to players about the ongoing beta test invite scam spreading across the internet. CD Projekt Red posted on The Witcher’s official Twitter (X) on April 16 that they received reports from the community that they are being invited to a beta test for The Witcher 4, which is a scam.
The post read, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."
They added that if there were beta tests in the future, players would first hear about it on The Witcher’s official social media and websites.
First Revealed in December 2024
The Witcher 4 was first announced during the Game Awards in December 2024. The announcement came with a trailer, which featured the game’s protagonist, Ciri. This became the talk of the community, as for the past 3 games in the series, Geralt has been the main protagonist.
Following the reveal, VGC interviewed The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber about the reaction of the fans to Ciri becoming the game’s new main character. Weber acknowledged the sentiments of the fans, as he also loved playing Geralt in previous titles. However, the team will make sure to address these concerns in future reveals.
Weber explained, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."
The Witcher 4 Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, expressed his gratitude towards those who supported their decision on making Ciri the lead. "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released." he said.
According to the developers, The Witcher 4 is set to be the most ambitious of the series and will feature new regions and monsters. The Witcher 4 is set to be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. There have been no announcements regarding a specific release date.
