The Sims franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary with in-game events, a 25 hour livestream, and the grand return of two beloved titles! Read on to find out more about the festivities.
Happy 25th Birthday To The Sims!
Events And Freebies Galore
The Sims celebrates its 25th anniversary with tons of events and goodies for players, such as in-game freebies, a star-studded livestream featuring the best of Simmers (Sims players), and the grand comeback of The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 on PC.
"Our incredible players have shown us that no one does life like The Sims, and we wanted to celebrate this journey we have been on together," The Sims Production Director Kevin Gibson said to Xbox Wire in an interview. "25 years ago there was a game with an idea that made big a splash at E3, and look where we are today! We’ve been part of multiple generations and touched millions of lives." He continued that without the support of all the players that spanned two decades since its reveal in 1999, they wouldn’t be where they are now.
"All of the Simmers from all of the years and all of the different ways to play The Sims, are part of this 25-year journey, and this is our way of saying thank you."
The Sims 1 And The Sims 2 Are Back
Starting off with the biggest announcement, players can now take a stroll down memory lane and return to where it all started. In celebration of its grand 25th anniversary, the original The Sims and The Sims 2, complete with all their respective DLCs, are now available for purchase on Steam or on the EA store either as a Birthday Bundle or separately.
This is a great treat for Sims players (otherwise known as Simmers) as the first two titles were not readily available for purchase by the general public for nearly a decade, and even if you owned a physical disc version of the game, modern computers could not run it without requiring some heavy tweaking in the computer files and more. EA has now removed that obstacle by launching builds that could be run by modern computers, a re-debut that Simmers have been anticipating for years.
In-Game Events For The Sims 4 And The Sims FreePlay
The Sims 4 will have the Blast From The Past event, bringing iconic clothing, furniture, and decor from the earlier titles into the game. Across four weeks, new items will be gradually added into the game, such as neon inflatable chairs that come in a bright neon green or a popping pink, a three-layer cake, a light-up dance floor for party nights, and even wired phones.
On the other corner, The Sims FreePlay Birthday Update will take its players back to the series’ humble beginnings in the 2000s, with new Live Events "The One with the Coffee Shop" and "Reality Island", a new velour tracksuit, daily gifts for 25 days, and a Social Town update with a museum to look back at The Sims through the years.
25 Hour Livestream For 25 Years
To kickstart the anniversary celebration, The Sims held a non-stop 25 hour livestream last February 4th, and featured dozens of celebrities, streamers, fan-favorite builders, and storytellers that all share a love and passion for The Sims. Guests included Doja Cat, rapper Latto, drag queen duo Trixie Mattel and Katya, YouTubers Dan & Phil, Plumbella, TikTokers Angelo & Lexy, virtual streamer Ironmouse, and many more.
Simmers who have missed the grand opening of the celebration can hop on to the official The Sims YouTube channel or Twitch channel to watch the entire recording.
