Developers Want To Maximize Player Options

The Blood of Dawnwalker (TBOD) will give players freedom on how they want to play the game with various choices and decisions to make. TBOD Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz explained in an interview with GamesRadar+ on February 16, 2025 how the game will manage to do so.

Tomaszkiewicz elaborated, "It's a sandbox, meaning we're trying to maximize your options of your choice in the game." He added, "But it isn't purely focused on gameplay. We were trying to play to our strengths, because our past projects were very focused on narrative, on good storytelling, interesting characters and a lot of lore to find."

The new studio Rebel Wolves led by Tomaszkiewicz consists of CD Projekt Red (CDPR) veterans, so comparisons with games under CDPR such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are inevitable. Leaning towards this, Tomaszkiewicz differentiated their game with Witcher 3, particularly with TBOD letting players kill off random NPCs, with some even being important to the game.

He clarified, "It's not exactly endless possibilities, because obviously we have a set character you're playing with Coen, and he has his own personality and so on, but within this personality we're trying to give you the ability to shape your own Coen."

Possibilities of Alternate Outcomes

TBOD is described by Tomaszkiewicz as a "narrative sandbox" as quests can branch into different ways. "Sometimes this can lead to alternate outcomes or even cut off certain quest lines," he explained. However, there have been no specific information regarding how vast these alternate outcomes may be, and how it affects the game in its entirety.

Tomaszkiewicz also shared how this can affect other parts of the game, and said "And this, of course, ties into our other systems [...] you being a Dawnwalker means that you have this blood hunger during the night time, so this can actually lead to these NPCs dying if you're not careful."

With the features and mechanics promised, TBOD developers mentioned that the game will strive to achieve AAA quality, which is expected from the developers who made Witcher 3.

Blood of Dawnwalker was first revealed on January 13, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. There are no official announcements on a release window or a specific launch date. Check out our Blood of Dawnwalker to stay up to date with the latest information about the game.
