Hazelight Studios Is Not For Sale and Will Never Be
During an interview on the YouTube channel MinnMax on February 27, 2025, Split Fiction Director Josef Fares answered rapid-fire questions about the game. Fares confidently said that Hazelight Studios is not for sale. He stated that it will never be in the stock market, never have microtransactions, and will continue to create games. As the host suggested for Hazelight to do collaborations with other studios, Fares prefers to create the studios’ own ideas instead of doing other projects outside the team but is open to conversations.
Furthermore, he said that although co-op games will always be a part of the studio’s DNA, he called back to his first title, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, which is a single-player game, hinting that the studio could develop a single-player game in the future.
Fares gave an update regarding It Takes Two, which has sold over 23 million copies to date, with half the sales coming from China. He expressed surprise over the game's popularity in China but is nonetheless thankful for the support and that they, the team, just do what they believe in.
Hoping to Win Game of The Year
In a Fall Damage video uploaded to YouTube on March 6, 2025, Fares responded to fan comments regarding different topics. One comment alluded to Split Fiction being their Game of the Year, and Fares said that he is hoping that they would receive the award again.
It is worth noting that Hazelight Studios previously won the Game of the Year Award back in 2021 with their hit co-op game It Takes Two. However, Fares acknowledges that this year has tough competition for the award, pointing out another highly anticipated game possibly releasing this year: GTA 6. He noted, "I would really appreciate if we won Game of the Year again, but on the other hand, I'm a huge fan of GTA. I think if that comes out it's gonna be really tough, and I want it to come out because I'm a huge fan."
Takes 12-14 Hours To Complete
Split Fiction will take 12-14 hours to complete, depending on how the player approaches the game and if they engage all the side content. According to Fares, Split Fiction will be around the same time of completion as its previous co-op title It Takes Two. He added that players will not want to miss the side content the game offers and that there are things in Split Fiction that fans have never seen before in a game. Additionally, he firmly stated that there are no plans for DLC in the future.
Regardless, Split Fiction looks to follow in the footsteps of It Takes Two as one of the most successful and critically acclaimed co-op games in history. Split Fiction is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
