The Pokémon Company has no plans to include Pokémon TCG Pocket in its competitive circuit. Read to learn more about Pokémon TCG Pocket’s future in the competitive scene and the possible reasons why it has not happened yet.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet
No Plans For Competitive Pocket
There are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to enter Pokémon’s competitive circuit, at least for now. The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports Chris Brown revealed in an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025 that they are always looking at different titles to add to the competitive scene, but Pokémon TCG Pocket might not be in the cards yet.
He jokingly said "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," as the company previously released a parody trailer for the Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament as an April Fool’s joke. However, he reiterated "But at this time there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
Too Early And Unbalanced
Although there have been no reasons stated as to why Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be included in the competitive scene soon, fans have speculated why this may be. It could be attributed to the game being in its early stages with only four months in and releasing two sets since its launch in October 2024.
The game has competitive features within the app that have been available since launch. However, players have asked the developers to adhere to the balancing issues the game is constantly facing. Compared to the original Pokémon card game, Pokémon TCG Pocket is a simplified version of the latter, offering a more beginner-friendly approach to fans so a competitive atmosphere is not its primary design philosophy.
Regardless, The Pokémon Competitive Circuit still has a slew of events to offer Pokémon fans, which include Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, which will all be featured in the upcoming Pokémon World Championships on August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
