Guns Undarkness will release a free demo at the upcoming Steam Next Fest. Persona series and Metaphor ReFantazio Composer Shoji Meguro will lead this project alongside Ghost in the Shell Character Artist Ilya Kuvshino and rapper Lotus Juice, most known for his work in Persona 3.

Meguro has worked for a long time in Atlus since 1995, composing music for popular titles such as the Shin Megami Tensei series and Persona Series. In 2021, he became an indie game developer while continuing to work with Atlus on composing music for their games. Since leaving the company, Meguro worked on a Sci-Fi Stealth Action JRPG that will be published under Kodansha Game Creators Lab.

Guns Undarkness was first revealed at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021 and began a Kickstarter campaign in 2022 which reached its stretch goals. The game will have a free demo available at the upcoming Steam Next Fest on February 24, 2025, and will be released for early access later this year.

Inspired by Metal Gear Solid and Persona

Based on its Steam page description, Guns Darkness is a "turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Metal Gear Solid and Persona." Set in 2045, the world is close to the brink of destruction and ruin. Play as a member of a private military company tasked to take on missions with allies and uncover the secrets of the world to save humanity.

The game focuses on two gameplay aspects: stealth and battle sections. During stealth, players can move around the field and remain undetected. Engaging an enemy while undetected gives players an advantage during battle. Battles are turn-based where players give commands to their characters and use different firearms to win.

Guns Darkness Demo will have around 20 minutes of gameplay including the tutorial for basic controls, battle system, weapons, and strategies during the game’s early stages. The game is set to be released in Spring 2025 for Early Access with about 10 hours of playtime on PC. There are no official announcements for a specific release date.
