Monster Hunter Wilds Faced Numerous Issues At Launch
Monster Hunter Wilds Received Mixed Reviews on Steam
Despite having mixed reviews on Steam, Monster Hunter (MH) Wilds has over 1 million concurrent players. According to SteamDB, MH Wilds had an all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players as of writing.
MH Wilds shattered previous records from its predecessors as MH World reached an all-time peak of 334,684 players, while MH Rise had 231,360. However, MH Wilds currently has Mixed reviews on its Steam page, with 57% of its 54,669 reviews being positive. Most of the negative reviews shared the same sentiment of the game being poorly optimized for PC and having some performance issues.
Capcom Responds To PC Performance Issues
In light of the negative reviews on MH Wilds’ poor PC performance, Capcom responded to these issues and looked to alleviate them. Monster Hunter’s official support account, Monster Hunter Status, posted on Twitter (X) on February 28, 2025 to respond and try to present solutions to the numerous issues the game currently has.
The post linked to MH Wilds’ support website, where different questions based on the concerns of players are posted and answered. Fixes and suggestions made by Capcom to solve these include updating the video/graphics driver, checking for the latest Windows updates, doing a clean installation of the video driver set, and more.
If the issue persists, Capcom advised, "Please also try the troubleshooting steps on the Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread posted on the Steam community page as they contain more detailed and additional steps that may help resolve your issue."
Game-breaking Bug Blocking Story Progress
There is currently a game-breaking bug that is blocking story progression for players. A vital NPC is not appearing where they should, thus hindering the progress of players during Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 A World Turned Upside Down. Monster Hunter Status posted on Twitter (X) on March 2, 2025 that they are aware of this and are working on it.
Additionally, there were issues regarding the "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features not being unlocked despite players meeting their required criteria, as well as issues on visiting the Smithy. The developers have responded to these issues and have rolled out hotfixes and updates on different consoles and platforms.
Character Editing Locked Behind Microtransactions
MH Wilds requires microtransactions for players to change their characters’ appearance and their Palicos. MH Wilds offers players the Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack, a chance to re-do their character-creating process three times for a fee of $6.00, which is available on all digital storefronts.
Players can still change their hair, eyebrow color, facial color, makeup, and clothing, but outside of those, they would need to buy this voucher. This is also true for the players’ companion Palico, which requires another voucher pack to edit it. However, MH Wilds offers another voucher for $10, which allows players to edit both their character and Palico’s appearance three times.
Although this is the case, Capcom is offering a single voucher for character edits for free. These microtransactions were not available during MH Wilds testing period, but Capcom has previously announced that these will be included in the game.
