Marvel Rivals developers are in contact with Nintendo about the possibility of the game coming to Switch 2. Read to learn more about the status of the game being ported to Switch 2 and why the game was not released to Switch.
Marvel Rivals Could Come To Nintendo Switch In The Future
NetEase Open To Marvel Rivals Nintendo Switch 2 Port
Marvel Rivals could potentially come to Nintendo Switch if discussions with developers and Nintendo go smoothly. During the DICE Summit 2025 in Las Vegas, Marvel Rivals Producer Weicong Wu shared with IGN news regarding the game possibly coming to Switch 2.
NetEase is working closely with Nintendo to bring Marvel Rivals to Switch 2, and depending on the results of NetEase’s testing with the device, it will determine whether Marvel Rivals could come to Switch 2. According to Wu, they are already in contact with Nintendo to make the port happen, and are currently "working on some development kits." He added, "And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that."
Marvel Rivals Did Not Come To Switch Due To Device Limitations
Marvel Rivals was released to all consoles and platforms, excluding the Nintendo Switch. Wu explained that the reason the game was not released for Nintendo Switch was because of the device’s limitations, as "the first generation of that device they cannot provide a great experience for our gameplay." He pointed out that "if it [Switch 2] could achieve that goal, we're open to that."
In an interview with Pocket Tactics during Gamescom 2024, Marvel Rivals Game Director Thaddeus Sasser noted that "there are no discussions [happening]" right now to make a handheld port." This was understandable as Marvel Rivals was built on Unreal Engine 5, which can be heavy for handheld devices to handle performance-wise.
Despite not releasing on Switch, Marvel Rivals still saw success with its console and PC release and will have their next update on February 21, 2025, adding new heroes to the roster with the Human Torch and The Thing.
Nintendo Switch 2 Confirmed Games So Far
Even with the reveal trailer for Nintendo Switch 2 in February 2025, developers remained hesitant to announce their games on the console, often regarding their next releases to the "next Nintendo platform," not explicitly saying Switch 2.
Games that have officially announced a Switch 2 release include Fur Squadron Phoenix by Raptor Claw, Synth Beasts by Radwood Advance, and others that implied Nintendo’s next-gen console for their releases. A new Mario Kart game could also be coming based on the Switch 2 reveal trailer, as well as Pokemon’s latest entry in the franchise with Pokemon Legends ZA.
Although there have been no official announcements, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer remained open to Xbox games being ported to Switch 2 during a podcast with Gamertag Radio. Spencer said that he’s "really looking forward to supporting" Nintendo with Xbox’s titles.
Developers are still waiting for further Switch 2 news before announcing their games for the next-gen Nintendo device as the trailer revealed few details regarding the handheld console. These questions may be answered in the upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025 which will be dedicated to the Switch 2.
