Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra may finally get a confirmed release date sooner or later as it is revealed that the team is vying for release around Christmas 2025. In an interview with The Direct’s Russ Milheim at MultiCon in Los Angeles last February 22nd, Black Panther voice actor Khary Payton shared that the game’s team is aiming for a Christmas launch window.

"We’re still working. We’re planning on 2025… We’re thinking like a Christmas situation. But I'm so excited."

It was previously stated that the team was already gearing up for a 2025 release, but it was only through Payton’s statement that it now has a timeframe.

First announced in October 2021, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is a new third-person action-adventure title helmed by Uncharted creator Amy Hennig and her new studio, Skydance New Media. The game takes fans back to the early 1940s and features Black Panther and Captain America as unlikely allies to battle the forces of the Hydra organization in Germany-occupied WWII-era France.

Payton On Being Black Panther Azzuri

Khary Payton, known for being Ezekiel in The Walking Dead, will be voicing another Black Panther named Azzuri, who also happens to be the King of Wakanda in the game’s timeline. Azzuri is T’Chaka’s father and T’Challa’s grandfather, who is on a reconnaissance mission in Paris to try and take down Hydra by himself. However, that feat proves to be a challenge, and he teams up with his rival, Captain America, to fulfill his quest.

The actor is no less than enthusiastic about the game, telling The Direct that "If you would have told me that I, you know, after everything that happened with the Marvel universe and everything, and as a black kid growing up in America, I mean, of course you think, 'I want to be Black Panther.' And then you see it on the big screen and you see Chadwick [Boseman] bring him to life and you're just like, 'You know what, this is better than I ever thought it could be.'"

Payton also shared that the game boasts strong "cinematic" qualities, saying that "We want people to play this game and have the entire family, sit on the sofa and watch it like they're watching 'Game of Thrones,' or 'The Walking Dead,' or something. We’re looking for just an incredible cinematic experience for everybody, and I pinch myself." He continued on that the game will feature quite a bit of travelling in this interactive title, and that players will not be sitting around in a coffee shop in Paris watching the world crumble. "We're going to do some traveling… We’re not going to be just sitting in a coffee shop in Paris… We're gonna do some moving, so I'm excited for you to see it."

Alongside Payton is voice actor Drew Moerlein, voicing Steve Rogers, colloquially known as Captain America. The Captain is tasked with his own mission in France to take down the Germans. However, the Black Panther’s presence has him equally concerned about the state of affairs. Despite the underlying tensions between the two heroes, the two become an unlikely pair for the greater good—to save the entire world.

The two main characters are joined by Megalyn Echikunwoke (Nanali), Marque Richardson (Gabriel Jones), Lyne Renée (Julie), and Joel Johnstone (Howard Stark).
