Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Massive Success At Launch
Overwhelming Hit in Sales and Popularity Across All Platforms
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) is seeing massive success at launch, in both sales and positive reviews across all platforms. The devs Warhorse Studios took to Twitter (X) to announce the game’s milestone of selling over 1 million copies at launch on February 4, 2025. This achievement far surpasses its predecessor, which took over nine days to reach the same milestone.
According to SteamDB, KCD2 reached 176,285 concurrent players in the last 6 hours as of writing, trumping KCD1’s all-time peak of 96,069 players. KCD2 is 12th among all PlayStation games currently in the U.S. based on the PS store homepage at the time of writing.
The game also received a "Mighty" rating from OpenCritic, with a score of 89 and a 97% critic recommendation rate.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Creative Director Responds To Negative Reviews
Despite the overwhelming reception of fans and critics to KCD2, the game is still being met with some criticisms and negative reviews. KCD2 Creative Director Daniel Vávra posted on Twitter (X) the negative ratings the game received from different critics and expressed his thoughts on the matter.
Some video game review outlets gave KCD2 a significantly lower score compared to its average rating from other sites, mostly describing playing the game as "slog" or needs more work to play than it should be. The game’s overall rating on OpenCritic, which aggregates ratings from different critic sources, saw a decrease because of these scores. Vávra mentioned this in several of his Twitter (X) posts, clapped back at them, and sarcastically pointed out their "excellent journalistic standards."
Ongoing Online Criticism On Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Vávra continued to respond against people online who constantly attacked KCD2 due to the game having same-sex romance options. On Twitter (X), he called out several Metacritic user reviews that labeled KCD2 as a "historically inaccurate DEI game." Vávra encouraged fans to review the game and report bots that post negative comments on review sites.
He previously emphasized that the LGBTQ+ content and scenes are completely optional in the game, and stated that it all depends on the choices of the players if they wish to engage in such activities. KCD2 is an open-world medieval game, so players have a lot of options on how they wish to enjoy this role-playing game.
Elden Ring Easter Egg In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
- via Reddit user szpitalosw
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 features a vast open world, and fans are already discovering nice surprises hidden in the game. One particular easter egg fans have found is a reference to Elden Ring player Let Me Solo Her, who became a bit of a legend after defeating Elden Ring’s most difficult boss, Malenia, and helping other players also accomplish this feat.
A fan spotted the remains of a dual-blade-wielding warrior at the southwest corner of the Trosky region. The skeleton wore a pot around its head and two swords on each of its hands. This is a clear reference to Let Me Solo Her, and fans are wondering if there are other easter eggs to be found in the world of KCD2.
Warhorse Studios previously revealed a post-launch roadmap for KCD2, featuring paid DLC content and free updates for fans in 2025.
