On March 7th, 2025, Killing Floor 3 (KF3) developer Tripwire announced on the game’s official Bluesky account that the highly-anticipated survival horror co-op shooter will be delayed to an unknown date later this 2025, following a disappointing beta test run. The sudden news comes just three weeks before its initial launch date of March 25th.
"We’ve made the decision to postpone Killing Floor 3’s launch to an undecided date later in 2025. After taking the time to gather and discuss feedback from our recent closed beta, we’ve realized that we missed the mark. Our goal isn’t just to make Killing Floor 3 an ambitious step forward for the franchise, but also to maintain the core experience that you’ve come to know and love," Tripwire wrote on the Bluesky post, reassuring fans that the team is now working to address many of the common issues present during the testing phase, such as "performance/stability, UI/UX, lighting, and weapon feel."
Players took to social media to air out their frustrations with the beta build, citing it to be "insanely clunky and clumsy,", and an "unpolished, glitch-ridden, vomit-inducing wreck." Another Reddit user known as Captain_Pugman called out the developers on the game’s subreddit, saying that "At what point did you forget what made Killing Floor special? Because right now, Killing Floor 3 looks like it’s trying to be everything except the one thing it should be: a Killing Floor game." Other complaints centered around the fact that KF3 seemed to have dropped most of its horror elements in favor of a more futuristic sci-fi theme, which is not what the series is known for, as well as not being able to freely choose a character and a class separately as classes were character-locked during the beta.
Tripwire concluded the post with hope for the future, writing that "We look forward to another opportunity to show you a more polished version of Killing Floor 3, and when we’re ready to share more details, you will be the first to know. Until then, we thank you for your continued patience and overwhelming support.
Pre-Orders Will Be Refunded Automatically Except For Steam
In response to the news, Senior Community Manager Yoshiro over on the Tripwire Interactive Killing Floor 3 forums detailed what would happen to the game’s digital pre-orders now that the release date has been postponed. He wrote that once the delay is reflected on all respective storefronts, refund and cancellation processes will begin to take effect.
For PlayStation, Xbox, and Epic Game Store users, all pre-orders will automatically be canceled and refunded without needing user input. However, PlayStation users from the United States will instead be given a choice to cancel and receive a refund or keep their pre-order for a later date. If said user does not respond after a certain period, the pre-order will default to cancellation and refund.
Players who pre-ordered KF3 on Steam will need to refund their purchase manually by canceling their order and initiating a refund request through the Steam support system. Those who ordered through 3rd party platforms and vendors not listed above will have to coordinate with said vendors and are subject to the store or platform’s respective refund policies.
