Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now

Unleash the Ghoul Within

Fallout 76’s recent update gives players the chance to roam Appalachia as a Ghoul. Bethesda posted an article on their website on March 18 that Fallout 76 Season 20 titled "The Ghoul Within" is now live, adding various ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetics to redesign players’ C.A.M.P.

In this new update, players can now turn into a Ghoul through Ghoulification, which can be accessed by doing the "Leap of Faith" questline. This takes the players to a whole new section of the Savage Divide, letting them meet new characters to help in their transformation. Becoming a Ghoul gives players Ghoul-exclusive abilities Glow and Feral, and access to 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks.

The Feral ability replaces the hunger and thirst stats, giving boosts in different categories depending on the percentage the Feral meter is at. However, letting it drop to 0% makes for insane gameplay changes as "At 0%: you gain +150% Melee Damage, and lose -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."

Meanwhile, the Glow ability indulges players to consume radiation, making them immune to diseases and mutations, and even makes players actually glow. The Glow ability also increases maximum health and heals damage players have taken, as well as contributes to Ghoul-exclusive Perks or as Bethesda calls them, "Gherks."

There are 28 perks to choose from and 2 new legendary perks for Ghouls. Note that perks that revolve around Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistant Perks will be inaccessible for Ghouls as they do not require the benefits those cards provide.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

Being a Ghoul helps exploring the radiation-infested wasteland easier with all the Gherks and abilities the player gains. However, factions such as the Brotherhood of Steel would not want to interact with Ghouls which would make them hostile towards the players. This may also lock players behind certain questlines.

Fortunately, players can override this with the help of Jaye, a new NPC that gives players disguises that allow them to interact with any blocked content due to the player being a Ghoul. If players find the Ghoul life not working out for them, they can become human again through the Character Screen. However, this is a one-way ticket back as players cannot do the Leap of Faith quest line again. Instead, players can purchase the Ghoul Retransformation on the Character Screen for 1000 Atoms.

Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes

Wastelanders eager to start their adventure or longtime residents of Appalachia can now jumpstart their journey with the Level 50 Character Boost. Included in the new Season 20 update, players can now purchase the Level 50 Character Boost for 1500 Atoms, which gives various boosts and perks to help players experience multiplayer features Daily Ops, Public Events, and some story content right away.

Additionally, the patch brings bug fixes and balance tweaks which include accessibility fixes, combat balancing, weapon damage changes, and more. Bethesda also reminded fans of the upcoming update on April 29 titled "The Big Bloom," which is included in their season calendar.

Fallout 76 was released in November 2018 which had a rocky start with all the bugs and issues players experienced. With its consistent updates and current Season 20 update, the game now has a "Mostly Positive" review on Steam, having 76% of its reviews being positive. Fallout 76 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
