Dune: Awakening MMO Character Creation Now Open

Game Launches On May 20th

Following a reveal trailer, Dune: Awakening is now slated for release on May 20th, 2025 for PC via Steam, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S ports to follow on an unspecified date. In the meantime, developer Funcom has released the Character Creator and Benchmark Mode, allowing players to begin their journey to Arrakis by fully crafting their character, as well as test the PC hardware if it is compatible with the title.

For the Character Creator, users can customize every single aspect of their appearance, as well as the liberty of choosing their home planet, caste, and a mentor or class. These characters will then be imported into the full game upon release. Additionally, players who create a character early will receive an exclusive Frameblade knife skin, redeemable on launch through a code.

The Benchmark Sequence will test the user’s PC performance and will adjust the graphics settings accordingly to find the optimal balance. The scenario will take the player through a player-built base in the desert before moving to Harko Village, the hustling and bustling Harkonnen player hub, and concluding with an encounter with a massive sandworm.

The game will be priced at USD 49.99, and players can pre-order the game on Steam soon. Pre-orders will come bundled with an in-base decoration called the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, housing the series’ favorite desert kangaroo mouse.

Dune: Awakening Features An Alternate World

Based on the Dune novels by Frank Herbert and also inspired by the movie adaptations, Dune: Awakening is an open-world multiplayer survival game set in the same universe. Players start off as a prisoner sent to investigate the mystery of the Fremen’s disappearance. Its cinematic storyline will then see your character rise from a nameless nobody to becoming an agent of either the Atreides faction or the Harkonnen.

A vast, shifting desert named Arrakis serves as the game’s open world, offering players infinite exploration. Every week, new locations, dangers, and rewards will be available, and players will race to be the first to discover them. In Arrakis, players can build bases, engage in combat, explore the great unknown, and socialize with the rest of the land’s people. Leave your own legacy, and rise among the ranks!
