Undertale’s parallel story, Deltarune, is nearing completion on its Chapter 4 release as development continues and console testing begins. Read on to find out more about the upcoming release later this year!
Deltarune Chapter 4 Begins Console Testing
Wrapping Up PC Test, Gearing For 2025 Release
Deltarune’s development on the fourth chapter is nearing its conclusion as it enters its console testing phase. In a post on developer Toby Fox’s Bluesky account, he posted an update on the game’s progress, sharing that PC testing and translation for Chapter 4 is "winding down" and that they will only be fixing and checking present issues with the build. As of writing, console testing has begun on all platforms for Chapters 1 to 4.
Chapters 1 and 2 are already free-to-play on PC, MacOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, but further testing is required to see if all chapters can be played connectively and seamlessly with no issues. Previously, the chapter switch command for Chapters 1 and 2 faced several bugs and glitches, which have mostly been fixed.
With Chapter 4’s testing appearing to go smoothly, Deltarune’s Chapters 3 and 4 get closer and closer to being released. Toby Fox confirmed a 2025 release with a tweet on his X (Twitter) to greet the new year, as pictured above.
PlayStation Testing Enables Trophies, Players Might Have A Hard Time
In a follow-up post to the thread, Fox added that because of PlayStation’s requirements to have achievements in the game to be tested on their console, trophies will be enabled and tested to make sure it is all running smoothly. However, Fox makes a suspicious little comment at the end: "I don't think they're going to like testing the trophies though."
Deltarune Chapters 1 and 2 do not have trophies even in their PlayStation port as they are categorized as demos, but the PlayStation and Xbox ports of the original Undertale did. Most of its achievements rewarded players for the most mundane of things like getting an item (the trophy is named Don't Worry, I Have Lots of Ideas for Trophies) and arriving in a new area. However, one particularly hilarious and slightly frustrating achievement is the Dognation Level 15 trophy, which requires a player to "donate" (or waste, as other fans put it) 350G to the Dog Shrine in the game. Given the nature of the game, this can be quite a feat as gold currency can be scarce depending on how your playthrough runs.
Fox didn’t elaborate further, so testers would just have to find out for themselves what these trophies are. Deltarune is projected to have a total of five chapters as per the game’s Steam page, and with development looking smooth, this might just be completed sooner rather than later.
