Undertale creator Toby Fox has posted an update about the testing phase for Chapters 3 and 4 of his next game, Deltarune. Read on to find out more about the console testing, and what to expect.
Deltarune’s Console Testing Going Smoothly
Saves Eventually Can Be Transferred To The Main Game
On his official Bluesky account, Deltarune and Undertale creator Toby Fox updated fans that console testing is still ongoing and that while there’s still a lot of work to be done, progress seems to be going smoothly.
"Still console testing. There are fewer bugs, but there's a lot to go through. (Haven't even tested PS5 yet)" Fox wrote on the post, adding that in addition to fixing the two new chapters, they’re also working on having saves from the demo (Chapters 1 and 2) on console versions, which players can carry on to the main game when fully released as they’ve only recently acquired the technology needed for this feature. "I hope it works!"
With the beta testing looking good, the release date might just be right around the corner. Deltarune’s Chapters 3 and 4 will come out sometime in 2025 as confirmed by Fox himself on his Bluesky.
Fox Namedrops New Character, Tenna
Even with all the workload to make sure that Chapters 3 and 4 are fully ready for release, Toby Fox still manages to amuse fans with little mini-updates here and there. The indie developer is known for his strong usage of internet memes, as well as having tongue-in-cheek and self-deprecating humor, which in turn made him post the following:
"I showed my family and friends a minigame I've been working on for DR (Deltarune) and they all described it as ‘a cry for help because your game is not out’" Fox shared to his social media last week, adding that his family clarified that it’s a good thing, while his friend just laughed at him "for about 10 minutes straight."
However, this also got some fans speculating that since Fox had previously stated in 2024 that Chapters 3 and 4 are done content-wise, this mini-game might already be for the upcoming Chapter 5. Deltarune is slated to have a total of 7 chapters before concluding.
He continued the post, saying that "Same friend who played Chapter 3 like over a year ago also told me ‘I miss Tenna’ and I was like ‘man that's something no one in the world has ever said huh’" Tenna is a character that has yet to make a public appearance in Deltarune, but was first seen during the Spamton Sweepstakes campaign that was held on the game’s official website last September 2022 for the Child’s Play charity. Fox’s mention of the character basically confirms that this mysterious Tenna will surely be part of the upcoming Chapter 3.
Deltarune is the parallel title and successor to 2015’s Undertale, and it features many of the first game’s mechanics and quirks alongside a new story and cast to journey with. Players will accompany Kris, Susie, and Ralsei as they go on a quest to save the world.
