Firaxis Games Postpones First In-Game Event for Civilization 7
Civilization 7 Focusing on Quality of Life Improvements
Civilization 7 (Civ 7) will postpone its first in-game event to make time for implementing quality-of-life improvements the game needs. Firaxis Games posted an update check-in on February 28, 2025 which included a Development Roadmap plan where they gave a high-level overview of what’s to come for the next update of Civ 7.
Update 1.1.0 will come to the game on March 4, 2025 across PC and consoles, with a different release timing for Nintendo Switch. The game’s first in-game event was planned for the upcoming update, but Firaxis Games stated, "Although our first in-game Event*, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access, people gave the game mixed reviews due to some features in the game not living up to people’s expectations, particularly the game’s UI. Firaxis Games has taken notice of this and previously stated, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They added, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Will Address Community Feedback
The upcoming update for Civ 7 will focus on addressing community suggestions and feedback. The full list of update notes will be available during release, but Firaxis Games has provided an overview of what fans can expect.
A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be available for players to discover for free. The most anticipated update for UI adjustments will also come, alleviating players’ concerns and feedback regarding this aspect of the game. Furthermore, there will be significant changes to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory as AI leaders will be better at completing a Cultural Victory.
Along with the update, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will go live. According to the post, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025
Continuing Civ 7’s improvements, the next major update will come on March 25, 2025, but this date is subject to change. This update will still focus on improving the game’s UI as, according to the post, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Beyond the March updates, Civ 7 looks to continue rolling out improvements and refinements, which include adding a "one more turn" to let players continue playing past the end of the Modern Age, implementing auto-explore, new map sizes for PC and consoles excluding Switch, updates in multiplayer support, and more.
Firaxis noted, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
