Trails Beyond the Horizon Gameplay
The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon maintains the evolved combat system of its predecessors. This system allows players to switch seamlessly between Field Battle (action-based) and Command Battle (turn-based). This means that players can engage enemies directly in real-time or transition into the traditional turn-based combat. Initiating combat can involve preemptive strikes to gain advantages.
Within turn-based battles, players can perform basic attacks, utilize Arts (magic spells), execute Crafts, (character-specific skills), or use items, all mapped to specific buttons for efficiency. Characters can move freely and reposition themselves within their Movement range.
The game introduces the Shard Circular Linked Metafield (SCLM) system, which allows characters to receive buffs when performing coordinated attacks. Additionally, the Shard Boost (S-Boost) mechanic enables characters to expend levels from a special gauge to augment their powers, including the activation of S-Crafts—powerful, character-specific ultimate abilities.
Moreover, the Xipha orbment system enables Shard abilities in combat and offers support features. As players progress, they can discover and equip different holo-cores. It also allows for the installation of Art Drivers.
Outside of combat, players can engage in various side activities to deepen character relationships. These include participating in free tie events, giving gifts, or inviting team members to watch movies, all of which can strengthen bonds and unlock additional benefits.
There’s also a new cooking feature, where experimenting with new recipes increases a cooking level, which then unlocks further advantages for the team.
Trails Beyond the Horizon Story
The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon continues the narrative of Van Arkride, a Spriggan operating in the Republic of Calvard. Following the events of Trails Through Daybreak II, Van and his team at the Arkride Solutions Office confront new challenges as Zemuria embarks on Operation Startaker—a monumental endeavor to explore beyond the atmosphere using Orbal rockets.
As the operation progresses, Van receives an unexpected invitation from the Marduk Company to participate in a high-tech training exercise. This collaboration reunites him with notable figures such as Rean Schwarzer, known as the Ashen Chevalier, and Kevin Graham, a Dominion of the Septian Church. Together, they delve into enigmas rooted deep within Zemuria's core, confronting ancient secrets and potential threats that could reshape the continent's future.
Throughout their journey, the team encounters remnants of past adversaries and uncovers hidden truths about Zemuria's history and the forces that have long influenced its trajectory. Their discoveries not only challenge their understanding of the world but also test their resolve as they strive to protect Zemuria from looming dangers.
