Pokécology: An Official Encyclopedia For Pokémon Behaviors and Ecology
Launches in Japan in June 2025
The Pokémon Company, in collaboration with Japanese comic publisher Shogakukan, will be releasing an official encyclopedia for Pokémon behaviors and ecology. Shogakukan announced on its website on April 21 that they will be launching Pokécology on June 18, 2025 in Japan.
Pre-orders are now available in bookstores nationwide in Japan. According to Shogakukan’s article, the book will be priced at 1,430 yen (tax included). There are no official announcements regarding a global release, but given Pokémon’s popularity worldwide, fans can expect an English version to drop sometime soon.
Pokémon Ecology Encyclopedia
The official Pokémon encyclopedia will focus on the ecology of Pokémon, examining and analyzing these creatures from different perspectives. This book will highlight Pokémon’s diet, sleep, physical characteristics, and interactions with other Pokémon and the world.
Pokécology is put together by renowned veterinary behaviorists and ecology doctors from the University of Tokyo. Listed as the book’s official author, ecologist Yoshinari Yonehara led the research on the analysis of wild Pokémon. Meanwhile, Chihiro Kino, who has illustrated many animal ecology books, will create full-color drawings of Pokémon
Pokémon has released many hardcover books featuring Pokémon stats and battle techniques, as well as stories and game helpbooks. However, this marks the first time they will be focusing on the biology and ecology of our beloved companions, making this a perfect way for people, especially kids, to understand Pokémon more.
