Metro 15th Anniversary Updates
Metro 2033 Redux Is Free Until April 16
Metro is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a free game, which will only be available for the next 48 hours. 4A Games announced on Metro’s official Twitter (X) account on April 14 that they are making Metro 2033 Redux free on Steam and Xbox until April 16 at 3 PM UTC / 5 PM CET / 9 AM PT.
The developers wanted to give new players a chance to experience the game where it all started. Furthermore, 4A Games also provided an update last month regarding Metro’s 15th anniversary. In a blog post on 4A Games’ official website on March 16, the developers shared their plans for the game’s celebration.
The post read, "Throughout this year, there will be events, deals and celebratory content on the Metro social media channels, to thank you, our players for coming on the journey so far with us."
4A Games was founded in Kyiv, Ukraine, then later expanded to Malta. The game is inspired by the works of Dmitry Glukhovsky, a Russian author best known for the science fiction novel Metro 2033 and its sequels.
Despite the ongoing issues that have plagued the country, 4A Games looks to continue to tackle themes revolving around the war in Ukraine. They stated, "These circumstances are incredibly challenging, the situation remains dangerous and not within our control, but we are currently as safe as possible, and we want to manage your expectations around the reveal of the next Metro title, it will be ready when it is ready, and we can’t wait for you to see it. "
The Next Metro
The developers announced that they are currently working on 2 triple-A projects: the next Metro and a brand new IP. They have yet to reveal any specific details on the development of their brand-new IP, but shared some information about the next Metro.
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine affected how 4A Games went about developing the next Metro game. According to the post, "As we said in our last studio update, in 2022 a full-scale russian invasion changed how we wanted to tell the story of the next Metro game. As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important."
4A Games’ commitment to delivering hard-hitting and reality-inspired stories is ever-strong amidst the problems their country is facing. The developers assured fans that they will overcome this and will deliver a quality game for Metro's never more relevant chapter.
