Square Enix Announced NieR 15th Anniversary Special Novel
Square Enix celebrated NieR’s 15th Anniversary with various announcements for the franchise, including upcoming events and projects. During NieR’s 15th Anniversary livestream on April 19, Square Enix announced NieR’s online Special Novel, [U]ndecided Option.
There will be a total of 3 updates for the online novel, with the first one already available. The remaining 2 will come on April 25 and May 2, respectively. A brief description of the novel reads, “Such a 'servant' meets a mysterious boy with a mysterious air and is guided.”
Alongside this announcement, Square Enix launched NieR’s 15th Anniversary website, which will be the primary portal for the online special novel and other upcoming related projects and events for the anniversary celebration.
Exhibition, Concerts, Merchandise, and More
Square Enix will be holding an exhibition event at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Japan, featuring new artwork of the protagonists from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation. More information on tickets and other details will be announced at a later date.
Additional performances have been announced for the NieR: Orchestra Concert 12024 for Osaka on July 25 and 26, and Tokyo on August 2 and 3. Tickets for these events are now available via lottery, with more information on the concert’s official website.
Multiple upcoming merchandise items have also been revealed, including an album with newly recorded studio jazz arrangements from NieR: Dinner Show – Somethin’ or Other 12024 from December 2024, the NieR Weapon Story book, which contains over 650 stories for the weapons seen from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation, and scale figures of the protagonists of the NieR series.
Re[in]carnation Developer Blog
NieR series’ first mobile title, NieR Re[in]carnation will launch a developer blog series starting on April 28. They will be releasing monthly updates for the rest of the year, detailing the process behind creating Re[in]carnation.
The game was released in January 2021 and was shut down in April 2024 due to monetization issues. Fans are puzzled about why NieR would suddenly have a developer blog on the now-closed mobile title. Many have speculated a possible sequel or remake to the game, but no official announcements have been made so far.
The livestream closed with a 20+ minute live performance, featuring soundtracks from across the NieR franchise. Square Enix still has more in store for NieR fans with upcoming events and merchandise to be announced soon.
